BRAINSPOTTING

Brainspotting is a cutting edge EMDR derivative, neurobiological trauma treatment that taps into the body’s innate ability to heal by using a combination of specific eye positioning and bilateral auditory stimulation to engage deeper level brain processing and reduce/release the emotional charge of traumatic memories and negative beliefs.

Brainspotting can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to traditional talk therapy.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples

pexels-photo.jpg

EFT is an attachment-based approach to couples therapy. Many couples have a “dance” that they do: you know it, that all too familiar “here we are again” fight pattern that leaves you feeling disconnected, hurt, exhausted from fighting the same fight over and over, until you feel hopeless and wonder what happened to the love that drew you together.  In EFT, we work to identify and de-escalate this negative cycle in your relationship. Then we look behind and underneath the cycle, to the false interpretations and the attachment wounds, needs and vulnerabilities that drive it.  When we understand the negative cycle and the underlying attachment needs, we can work together to restructure interactions in ways that move you toward each other, fostering renewed connection and attachment, so that your relationship again feels like the loving one you expected.

Fees

My fee is $150 for a standard 50-minute session, or $225 for a 75-minute session. I sometimes recommend the longer session for couples.

I do maintain a limited number of sliding scale reduced fee slots.

Payment is due at each session. Cash, personal checks, and all major credit cards are acceptable. Please note that there is a $30 fee for any returned checks.

Insurance

I am not on any insurance panels, so am out-of-network and do not file insurance claims. However, if your insurance offers out-of-network coverage, you may be able to file for partial reimbursement. I will provide you with a monthly “superbill” that you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Sadly, there are pros and cons to using your insurance for mental health services. Insurance companies require me to diagnose you with a mental disorder in order for them to pay for services. Not everyone who seeks therapy has a mental disorder. Also, insurance companies often place restrictions on what services they will cover: e.g., they may not cover marital or relationship counseling, they may dictate what treatment modality must be used, or they may limit the number of sessions. Furthermore, use of insurance may jeopardize your confidentiality, creating a medical record that might be accessible to insurance companies and future employers, with the potential risk of limiting future capacity to obtain health or life insurance or even a job.

If you wish to use your insurance, after considering the benefits and risks, check with your insurer for their out-of-network benefits. You'll want to ask them whether they provide any out-of-network coverage, how much, and whether there are limits on sessions or modalities.
